3M Scotchcast Plus Casting Tape is a lightweight, strong, and durable casting tape that combines the benefits of a fiberglass casting tape with the handling ease of plaster. Scotchcast Plus casting tape consists of a knitted fiberglass fabric impregnated with polyurethane resin. Exposure to moisture or water initiates a chemical reaction that causes the tape to become rigid.
Key Features:
Water-Activated Resin: Control the working time according to application needs, ensuring precise application.
High and Early Strength: Enables weight bearing in just 20 minutes, ensuring a durable cast with reduced chances of breakdown, minimizing the need for costly repairs or replacements.
Lightweight: Facilitates easy mobility, enhancing patient comfort and convenience.
Conformity and Comfort: The tape stretches adeptly to conform to contours, ensuring a snug, comfortable fit for the patient.
Porous Weave: Allows the skin to breathe, promoting airflow and reducing the risk of skin irritation.
Variety of Colors: Available in 12 colors to cater to patient preferences, maximizing satisfaction and personalization.
Suggested Applications: Ideal for use in constructing orthopedic casts, 3M Scotchcast Casting Products are versatile and suitable for a range of orthopedic applications including specialized prosthetics and orthotic devices. However, the specific suitability for each application should be determined by a qualified medical professional on-site.
Precautions:
The polyurethane resin in Scotchcast products adheres firmly to unprotected skin and clothing. Protective gloves must be worn during handling and application.
Care should be taken to avoid contact with unprotected areas of the patient's skin during application, and the material should be allowed to fully cure before touching with unprotected skin, typically taking about 30 minutes.
Instructions For Use:
Prepare the affected area by applying one or two layers of 3M Stockinet and/or wrapping with 3M Cast Padding for added protection.
Wear gloves during the wrapping process to prevent resin transfer and adherence to the skin.
Select the desired width of Scotchcast casting tape, opening only one roll at a time to prevent premature hardening due to room humidity.
Immerse the roll of tape in room temperature water, adjusting the immersion time and temperature to control the set time.
Construct the cast by wrapping spirally, ensuring slight tension on the tape for a snug fit. Avoid excessive tightness while maintaining adequate layers for strength and porosity.
