It is specifically designed for use in nephrostomy procedures, which involve the insertion of a tube through the skin and into the kidney to drain urine. The Nephrostomy catheter features a specially reinforced hole in the tip of the catheter that allows placement over a 0.038-inch guidewire. The silicone elastomer coating helps reduce urethral irritation.
