Tube Maintenance
- Follow hospital protocol or clinician orders.
- Flush every 4 hours with ≤20 mL water (≤10 mL in infants/children) before/after medications or when feeding stops.
- Monitor regularly; replace when clinically indicated.
Possible Complications
- Pneumothorax, GI perforation, aspiration, airway obstruction, tissue irritation/necrosis, allergic reaction, contamination, delayed diagnosis.
- Medication/nutrition delay or misdose; need for additional procedures.
MRI Safety
Weighted CORFLO tubes are MR Conditional:
- Static field ≤3 Tesla
- Spatial gradient ≤720 Gauss/cm
- Whole-body averaged SAR ≤3.0 W/kg
Warnings
- Avoid forward leaning or neck extension during insertion.
- Pre-measure length; do not over-insert (risk of kinking/occlusion).
- Coughing or resistance may indicate tracheal placement — remove the tube immediately.
- Always confirm gastric placement before use.
- Never reinsert the stylet while the tube is in the patient.
- Do not use excessive syringe force.
Note: Crush medications finely and dilute thoroughly (no visible particles) to prevent clogging.
