MIC-KEY Low-Profile Jejunal Feeding Tube Kit is designed for patients who require direct jejunal feeding when adequate nutrition cannot be achieved through the stomach. It is suitable for individuals with intestinal motility disorders, gastric outlet obstruction, severe gastroesophageal reflux, risk of aspiration, or those who have undergone esophagectomy or gastrectomy. This low-profile jejunal feeding tube may be placed percutaneously under fluoroscopic or endoscopic supervision, or used as a replacement device in an established stoma site.
Features
- Durable silicone internal retention balloon ensures secure tube positioning.
- SECUR-LOK extension set connection designed for a stable, reliable fit.
- Streamlined low-profile configuration supporting patient comfort and mobility.
- Integrated radiopaque strip for accurate visualization and confirmation of placement.
- Proximal anti-reflux valves help prevent reverse flow and protect against back-pressure.
- Adjustable distal tip that can be trimmed up to 81 cm from the distal end to the balloon tip for customized placement.
- Constructed from high-quality medical-grade silicone with a tapered distal tip to support smooth insertion and long-term performance.
MIC-KEY Low-Profile Jejunal Feeding Tube Kit Includes:
- 4 gauze pads
- (1)6mL syringe
- (1 )directions for use
- (1)Introducer cannula
- (1) 35mL catheter tip syringe
- (1)MIC-KEY bolus extension set with cath tip
- SECUR-LOK right-angle connector and clamp – 12-inch length
Indications For Use
Avanos MIC-KEY Low-Profile Jejunal Feeding Tube is recommended for patients with intestinal motility issues, gastric outlet obstruction, severe gastroesophageal reflux, aspiration risk, or previous esophagectomy/gastrectomy.
Contraindications
Include but are not limited to:
- Ascites
- Colonic interposition
- Portal hypertension
- Peritonitis
- Morbid obesity
Possible Complications
- Skin breakdown, infection, hypergranulation tissue
- Stomach or duodenal ulcers
- Intraperitoneal leakage, pressure necrosis
- Perforation, intussusception
Important Notes
- Do not use if package is damaged or sterile barrier is compromised.
- Higher perforation risk in patients <10 kg.
Placement
- Percutaneous under fluoroscopic or endoscopic guidance
- Replacement via established stoma tract
Cautions
- Gastropexy must be performed before initial placement.
- Identify insertion site, dilate and measure stoma tract.
- Tube length may be trimmed with razor blade/scalpel – ensure cut is smooth and tube extends 10–15 cm beyond Ligament of Treitz.
- Never use the retention balloon as a gastropexy device (risk of balloon rupture).
Balloon Maintenance (Check Weekly)
- Use slip-tip syringe to fully withdraw balloon water → compare to prescribed volume.
- If low: refill with withdrawn water + add amount needed.
- Wait 10–20 min and recheck. If volume lost again → balloon leaking → replace tube.
- If balloon ruptures or tube dislodges: tape tube in place and contact physician immediately.
- Document date, time, volume withdrawn/replaced.
Balloon Filling Rules
- ONLY use sterile or distilled water (never saline or air).
- Saline crystallizes and clogs valve; air leaks out.
- Use exact prescribed volume:
- Over-inflation → lumen obstruction or reduced balloon life
- Under-inflation → inadequate tube fixation
Warning
Single-use device. DO NOT reuse, reprocess, or resterilize. Doing so may:
- Alter biocompatibility
- Compromise structural integrity
- Cause device failure
- Risk contamination and infection → patient injury, illness, or death
