Care & Use
The MIC Jejunal Feeding Tube requires daily care by keeping the tube and stoma area clean and dry. Always wash your hands before handling the tube.

Maintenance
Inspect the tube and skin around the stoma before each feeding. Gently clean around the tube and SECUR-LOK Ring with warm, soapy water. If skin is red or irritated, contact a physician.
Flush the Tube
After each use, flush with 20–30 ml of water for adults or 10–15 ml for children/infants. For continuous feedings, flush at least three times daily. Clean the feeding port to prevent build-up.
Important: Do not puncture the tube. Only a medical professional should replace the MIC Jejunal Feeding Tube.
DO’S
- DO report unusual symptoms such as abdominal pain, abdominal discomfort, abdominal tenderness, abdominal distension, unexplained fever, or an unusual amount of bleeding through or around the tube to your health care practitioner.
- DO wash your hands before handling the tube or your stoma.
- DO flush your tube with each use—no less than 3–5 times a day.
- DO keep the feeding port clean.
- DO keep the exterior of the tube clean.
- DO adjust the SECUR-LOK Ring properly.
- DO use commercially prepared liquid medications.
DON’TS
- DON’T secure the tube in place with tape.
- DON’T let feeding solutions stand in the tube.
- DON’T use any diet not prescribed by the physician.
- DON’T cover the SECUR-LOK Ring or healthy skin with tape or gauze.
- DON’T fill the balloon with air.
- DON’T push the SECUR-LOK Ring onto the abdomen.
- DON’T put pressure on the opening (stoma).
- DON’T clamp the tube.
- DON’T use oil-based lubricants or petroleum jelly on the tube.
- DON’T use crushed medication.
