Description
Optifoam Gentle Heel Silicone-faced Foam Sterile Dressing is designed to be used as part of a pressure injury prevention protocol. It provides effective protection and care for individuals at risk of developing pressure ulcers or bedsores. When incorporated into a comprehensive prevention strategy, it helps maintain skin integrity and reduces the risk of severe wound formation.
Features:
- Easily peels back and re-sticks during skin or wound checks, ensuring gentle handling and convenience.
- Highly absorbent superabsorbent layer efficiently captures and retains exudate, minimizing the risk of maceration.
- Transfer layer directs wound exudate into the absorbent core, helping prevent leakage and maintaining a cleaner wound environment.
- Breathable, waterproof film acts as a barrier against germs and dirt while allowing airflow for a balanced wound microclimate.
- Silicone layer minimizes trauma and discomfort during application or removal, allowing for painless repositioning.
- Superabsorbent core locks in fluids, protecting surrounding skin from moisture-related damage.
- Silicone-faced foam border allows for gentle removal and secure adhesion.
- Waterproof backing ensures protection from external contaminants.
Indications: Helps manage microclimate and protect heels from friction and shear forces.
Contraindications: Third-degree burns.
How to Apply:
- Remove the center release liner from the dressing and position it under the heel.
- Align the dressing at the base of the heel and apply the adherent portion to the posterior heel or Achilles tendon.
- Remove backing from the top left and right ankle lobes, then apply and smooth.
- Remove backing from the bottom flaps and smooth upward toward the malleolus.
- Press and smooth the entire dressing to ensure full skin contact and adherence.
- For skin checks, gently lift the bottom flaps toward the Achilles until sufficient skin is exposed for inspection.
Removal:
- Gently lift the bottom flaps to release the dressing from the skin.
- Carefully remove the flaps covering the ankle lobes.
- Continue gently lifting until the dressing is completely removed.
Change Frequency: Optifoam Gentle Heel should be changed when drainage reaches the edges of the foam pad. It may remain in place for up to 7 days, depending on exudate levels.
Note: Do not cut the dressing.
